pan americana - aids awareness expedition 2005
On 19 September the Team Joachim Franz reached after unbelievable 23.000 kilometres the most southern point of the Panamericana at Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego at 10.12 oclock. After 23.000 kilometres throughout the American double continent the six cyclists and their escort of 19 had reached, 39 days after the departure in Deadhorse, Alaska, the destination of the pan americana aids awareness expedition 2005.
On their way through 13 states, the crew around the extreme athlete Joachim Franz from Wolfsburg had crossed all climes, had traversed the forest fires of Alaska, the tropical heat of Middle America and the dusty deserts of South America up to the cold Patagonia.
Joachim Franz, Holger Schuchard, Daniel Wienbreier, Oliver Illgner, Regina Marunde and Silke Seecamp alternated during the nonstop-marathon in a two-hours-rhythm, so that a bike was on the road day and night. 16 press conferences were done and the echo of the national media turned out as overwhelmingly as the enthusiastic reception of the people at the visited places and the spontaneous reactions of the audience along the road.
With the achieved attentiveness, Joachim Franz, employee at the Volkswagen health care, has once again made an important contribution to the international fight against aids. Furthermore, after the finish of the expedition, selected projects of en-route visited aids institutions are supported financially and materially. The means for that result from the fund-raiser 10 for 1, in which scope one kilometre of the covered distance on the Panamericana can be acquired for 10 EUR.
